The Witches Hat
Known to science as Hygrocybe conica
This beautiful mushroom gets is common name from the fact that it's cap shape resembles a witches hat and the scientific name derives from latin for 'moist head' and that is because these point little mushrooms are slimy and moist to touch. This genus of fungi display a wide range of bright colours with this species in particular showing bright reds to orange.
This species was the first mushroom I ever carved and has a special place in my heart.
